Heads Up! on Cash Back...

Hi folks,

Just wanted to alert people to the importance of Cash Back procedures in your every day stores.

This past week, we have witnessed two circumstances, where Cash Back handlings have gone VERY WRONG!!!

In the first instance (our own) ... we were sitting at home on Sunday night, before checking our current "cash in hand". Trying to figure out why we were short, we started checking things further. To cut a long story short, it appeared that we were $50 short, which matched up with a request for Cash Back in the BC Liquor Store. Digging up the receipt, we noticed It wasn't signed off, which as you know, is the key principle in proving whether or not you did actually receive the cash. Basically, it protects both the cashier and the customer.

So ... it was a priority on the Monday morning to return to customer service and see what can be done. Even with the slight stress of knowing that we were $50 down, a respectful, calm approach, where the girl could check things out - thankfully led to us having our $50 put right. Luckily for us, the girl could see how much they were out, which helped speed up proving we were $50 short, otherwise, checking back video footage would have been the next obvious move.

The key to this event, keep a calm head, show respect to the staff in any given store, explain the problem in clear detail with any form of proof (receipt) you can produce .. and hope for the best!

In the second instance, we approached a line up in Target yesterday. Everything seemed pleasant enough as we reached the till. One woman was in front of us, with what appeared to be a typical routine of paying for her shopping via the store's ATM. As we started to unpack our cart, another young girl came back with a couple of items of shopping. All of a sudden, an argument broke out regarding cash back - basically, her argument was that she never received her cash. The girl on the till calmly tried to explain that if a mistake occurred, her system would have shown that cash back was requested/given to the customer. In this case, the girl on the till clearly suggested this was not the case. The customer started becoming unreasonable .. and extremely disrespectful, including some colourful language. We really felt for the girl on the till, as she remained calm, professional & respectful, no matter what was being thrown at her. We don't know what the outcome was, but the girl had to call for assistance, to resolve the matter.

So, whether you are a cashier or customer, please! please!! please!!! take extra care, when Cash Back procedures are involved ... as things can go off the rails in a hurry.

Enjoy your shopping experience!!
