Moving from Alberta

Post by jill6810 » Wed Sep 10, 2008 5:41 pm

Hi there,

We are hoping to move from Calgary to Okanagan Valley....somewhere. Very tired of BIG city life of Calgary, crime, traffic and general decline in the quality of life. We have two children 9 and 2 and are trying to find a family friendly neighborhood/community either in Lake Country or Kelowna. ANy suggestions??

Thanks
JIll

Hello Jill,

Welcome to the forum! I am sure you will find a lot of folks happy to answer your questions. Really - it will come down to how much time you want to spend in a car - granted the commutes here are much prettier than in Calgary - and the traffic is actually moving almost all the time!

Lake Country has some great neighbourhoods - and all the amenities you will likely require for living. That said - if you are working - you will likely end up in either Vernon or Kelowna - as there is not a lot of employment in the Lake Country area - though there are some. In addition - you will have better selection for groceries and WAY more shopping - in Kelowna especially.

What kind of activities and interests do you and your family have? That may help us give you more specific information!
A Warm Welcome,
Brell

Thanks for your quick reply! We are both self employed, so living in the bigger cities is not so important. Our biggest priority is a community that has good schools, family oriented, etc. We're tired of the fast pace of Calgary, it is not the same city we grew up in! We are interested in the Lake Country and Westside/Westbank areas...we think!
