Fairweather hotel in Oliver

Anyone been? Fairweather will be its new name as it is due to undergo $1.3million restoration. I have an interest in this place as my OH is the great grandaughter of the pioneer Mr Fairweather who dismantled the Hotel and moved it from Vancouver to Oliver in 1912. There he re built it however, it was a struggle as most of his investors were on the "Titanic"! After thr rebuild there was so much surplus nails, hammers etc that Mr Fairweather opened a hardware store where my OH's grandmother worked, the hardware store is still in Oliver.

No, I wasn't aware of this hotel... but your post has certainly perked my interest. Thanks for sharing this story - looks like your connections with the Valley go a ways back!

Just found this link that mentions Harry Fairweather opening the Oliver Hotel in 1921 - I thought it might be of interest to you...

that's great moops, my OH will be v.interested thanks for the research, there was an article in the "chronicle" on 16th April about it. We will be giving it a visit on our next trip in September. I recall seeing in the Firehall restaraunt in osoyoos downstairs, are photographs of g.pa Harry outside the hotel with 20's cars and trilbie's..... a real "capone" era. not sure if this attachment will open Chronicle April162308.PDF (1787KB).

How goes the research, gotowngo? I wonder if the Oliver City Hall might be able to be able to assist with some history in connection with the hotel...
