I hope that this question has not been asked a 100 times before, but can anyone please give me a rundown of utilities and the cost +/- of each?

Thanks

Hi einselec,

In the Reserch and Information section there's a thread on the second or third page called 'Utility Bills' that should be able to answer your question. Let us know if you can't find it.

I found the thread but I would like to get an idea of the cost of utilities. I have got no idea how much these would be. All the rental properties excludes utilities and I would just like to get an idea of what we would be spending over and above the rent.

We are 3. Two adults and one baby and at home we do not have cable TV so we should be able to get along without this until we can afford it.

Thank you in advance. You can also move this if I posted the question in the wrong area.

Regards
Einstein

We just moved here and we haven't received any bills yet, but you can go on a budget for gas at $75 per month. For electricity and water I still don't know, but we're calculating around $350 including cable, internet and telephone a month. That's a 3 bdr house with 3 adults.

OK i will try and give some figures based on our family of four living in a 11 year old 2500 sqft house.

TV/Internet/Phone $125/month
Electric $59/month
Gas well the last bill was $23 but we hadn't used the heating so i am told it could be up to $150/month during winter
Garbage/recycling/sewerage $24/month
Property taxes $2300 /year

Have i missed anything, cannot remember now.

Just to add on - if you want to watch TV here (more than 2 channels) then you will need cable - sad and annoying but tru!

Yep and then when you've paid for the 99 channels you find that there is actually nothing worth watching except for the same program you watched the night before and the night before that.

That's why we have Access Okanagan. :)

Should mention that some of the utility companies required deposits eg Terasen gas....might be worth emailing the companies eg Bc hydro, Terasen, the evil corporation Telus etc (who I no longer have to deal with - we use Shaw internet phone) to find out if they still need deposits and how much they are.

We use Shaw internet phone now - works out to $55/month but includes caller id/voicemail/3way calling/call waiting plus unlimited calls within the whole of North America plus 1000 international minutes (valid 4 uk)..so it saves us quite a bit.
