BC's Minimum Wage - Lowest in the Country?
As the BC minimum wage has not altered in several years, other provinces are committing to revised levels between $9-$10 (or slightly more) in the near future. Will this put pressure on BC to re-evaluate minimum wage levels, or are we going to earn the "lowest minimum wage in the country" award?

Re: BC's Minimum Wage - Lowest in the Country?
Just to follow up on the above, this is what I "believe" to be the current rates (take a close look at BC!!)
N.L. $8.00 (as of April 2008)
Ontario $8.75 (as of March 2008)
Nova Scotia $8.10 (as of May 2008)
Quebec $8.50 (as of May 2008)
P.E.I. $8.00 (as of October 2008)
Manitoba $8.50 (as of April 2008)
New Brunswick $7.75 (as of March 2008)
Saskatchewan $8.60 (as of May 2008)
British Columbia $8.00 (as of November 2001)
Alberta $8.40 (as of April 2008)
Thank goodness we all make $100 per hour eh?

I believe the min wage in Ont has gone up to $9 or more... or at least will be soon. Very sad when you concider the cost of living out here compaired to back east.

It's official... BC has the lowest minimum wage in the county.
Apparently the BC government has not increased it in 8 years. Hmmmm... do you think yet another tax might help cover the shortfall?!

... is this the reason you see soooooo many young staff in retail type jobs around the valley, who look like they don't want to be there? ... or is this simply a change in times, where young folks have no job satisfaction???

How many businesses continue to pay their employees minimum wage? I can see being paid minimum wage for a couple of months, but continuing to pay it only means that business has a high employee turnover rate.
