Kamloops Neighbourhoods - Aberdeen

Post by admin » Mon Oct 10, 2011 6:57 pm

With this thread, we hope your viewpoint of “What’s it like to live in Aberdeen” will help members considering settling in the area. Many of you outside of the valley have already discovered how helpful Google Street View is as a research tool … we hope to further enhance that information with comments & photos of this area.

Aberdeen sits at a fairly high elevation and as a result, you'll find that the snow stays on the ground longer than other areas in the winter months. It is a fairly new development with homes ranging from mid to high end and there are still lots available to build your dream home. I'm told that Aberdeen is not central in the city, so be prepared for a bit of a commute.

Pacific Way Elementary School is located at the top of Aberdeen and has a very good reputation.

Dufferin is also a new development with upper end homes and is located on the north side of the highway in Aberdeen. Dufferin Elementary School also has a very good reputation. Kenna Cartwright Park has many trails for hiking and biking and is essentially "in your backyard".

The Pine View Valley area which is located on the South side of the highway has a mix of relatively new homes ranging from townhouse units and manufactured homes to very high end homes.

We're not familiar with the neighbourhoods of Kamloops, so if you know the city, please feel free to share your information!

having lived in Aberdeen, Yes the winter will last longer than other areas in Kamloops,
mainly due to the high elevation of the subdivision. it also makes it slightly cooler in the summer, but only a fraction. Aberdeen is one of the desirable places that people choose to live in and always sees lots of sales. houses can be found in any range from around $250,000 for a town house and over $1,000,000.00 for some family homes. houses are usually around 15 years old to new builds.

the view from Aberdeen is fantastic . one of the main selling points. If you ever wonder what its like to live in or above the clouds then Aberdeen can fit that bill. There are 2 elementary schools in Aberdeen, both have great reviews, with pacific way being one of the towns newest schools, Aberdeen also has 1 of kamloops 2 roundabouts ! always a joy to watch the locals try and work out what to do.

Dufferin isn't in Aberdeen at all, its a much smaller sub division comprising some older homes with lots of new builds off the main road, dufferin has its own elementary school, that until this year took in kids from Pineview Valley, However kids from Pineview will now be going to Mcgowan park elementary in sahali, which is a few km away.

pineview is a new development, with most houses being 10 years old or much younger while there are town houses and manufactured homes at the moment the vast majority of housing there is single family homes, it sits on the other side of the highway from dufferin and is next to aberdeen (although completly seperate). The sub division backs onto the side of a hill side thats covered with........ you guessed it pine trees.

Aberdeen, pineview and dufferin are close to all the main facilities, from the Mall, costco, the tornament capitial centre, the University, the supermarkets etc.. all are a 5 min drive, and downtown is 10 mins away. and all very close to highway 1 or highway 5a

i'll fill in some of the other areas later :thumbup
