Here's a link to this railway website. I personally haven't been on this steam train, but have heard that it's an enjoyable way to spend part of your day.

I would think so Jason! ... more leisurely & pleasurable would be on the mark!

Saying that, I haven't been on any kind of train in Canada yet, so look forward to trying out that mode of travel some day!

I'm not sure if there're any passenger trains still running in Canada or not. The one at Summerland is an historic steam engine with vintage cars and runs on a portion of the historic Kettle Valley Railway.

We went on thsi last year and the kids loved it. There is a man who comes around playing a banjo and taking requests. My 6yo asked for Old McDonald had a Farm - there went our street cred.

They do a train on Sundays that is held up by masked men on horseback. There is also a barbecue at the end of this event. We didn't try this as our kids are a bit young and we thought it would probably scare them.’

Re: other train travel - Captain Slog and I did the trip across Canada with ViaRail in 2004. We went from Toronto to Vancouver with one stop off in Jasper.

It's one of the best trips we've ever done and really gives you a sense of the size and the geography of the country. I would highly recommend it if you've got the time. It's three days if you go non-stop.

While our family was here from Scotland, they spent the afternoon enjoying the KVR Steam Train. Here are some of the photos that they took!

We went on the KVSR a couple of years ago and had a wonderful time, especially when "Felix" the banjo player came around doing requests, it seems that whatever tune you throw at him he can play - amazing. We asked for the Welsh National Anthem thinking he would ask us for another, but he knew it an played it ALL.
