We've tried to visit the small take-out chippy in Peachland... but haven't timed it right yet! We tried going on a Monday, I think it was, but they were closed. The next attempt was before 4 PM, when they opened.

We've heard it's the closest thing to British Fish n' Chips in the central OK. Has anyone tried this chippy?

... can hear my stomach grumble at the thought

I think this is the one we are thinking about... can anyone confirm the name?

Ye Olde Fish & Chippie. 5860A Beach Avenue, Peachland, BC

Can't wait to hear if it is good. We haven't had decent fish and chips since we got here. Had to go to Vancouver for a good curry!

Well, we finally tried "Ships Ahoy" while passing through Peachland yesterday. To be honest, I expected better. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't awful, but certainly nothing to jump up and down about. One thing I hate seeing here, they don't seem to peel the potatoes properly, as well as one other chippy in town who actually had a kinda "scaley" effect on his chips (they just appeared burnt)

So, on our next trip, we will check out "2 Chef's Restaurant".

Still haven't sampled the 2 Chef's Restaurant, but will deal with that issue on our next drive out that way!

I've often wondered: what defines British style fish and chips?

First and foremost, the taste! ... a good quality fish 'n' chip shop should produce good thick clean dry chips (not crispy) ... and they wouldn't look like thin McDonald's "fries". Another thing I and a few other Brits see here, they leave the skin on them?? .. just looks poorly prepared really.

Most importantly, the fish has to be good quality in a traditional batter & it's usually twice the size of what I've seen offered here in the Okanagan.

Last, but not least, it MUST be served in yesterday's newspaper (authentic history there) ... although these days, it's typically in a plastic tray.

Added to the supper, would be Salt, Sauce (tomato or brown) & vinegar .... and a serving of mushy peas if required.

Just don't ask for Tartar sauce in a British Chippy, you'll get a funny look.

Yes, while I don't eat fish and chips often, I usually order haddock rather than cod. I can do without mushy peas. Vinegar is a standard condiment but your sauces are certainly different. Is the batter different?

I could murder a chip steak supper tonight! (even if the locals "don't" want to know what's in it)

Mario will give you a recipe if you are interested?
