Right, this may be me being a bit slow, but there are shotgun sounds every 2 minutes where I live on the westside.
OH has said this is to scare birds of the orchards...

is that right?
We have only noticed it recently, what with everything else going on.
CAn anyone confirm?
It sounds like gunfire or a car backfiring...but it's very regular
As long as it's not a drug deal gone wrong I'm happy

Hmm? sounds like they could be trying to orchestrate a specific path for any wildlife in the area to escape to?? (whether the fire is heading that way, or purely an easy exit for animals to step away from the danger zones)
Personally, I wouldn't like to come across a stressed bear in those conditions.

it could be the orchards using the cannons to scare of birds from the cherry trees

the vineyards use them in fall to scare off the starlings

There are orchards and stuff near us so it oculd be the cannon thing, we had not noticed it before.
It blends in with the sounds of helicopters overhead

We heard it too last Saturday when we were up just the other side of Smith Creek at friends.

They have something like that in Fort McMurray in the tailings ponds. They called them "Bird Cannons" They make a big BOOM when a bird comes near to prevent them from landing in the oil slick. They explained how they work but it was quite awhile ago and I forget the specifics. maybe thats what it is?
