Well I guess it will be official once they get a chance to tally the votes again!

Residents of the Westside have chosen to incorporate rather than amalgamate with Kelowna or remain status quo. The votes were fairly close with approximately 350 dividing incorporation or amalgamation.

According to one of the local newspapers, the tally of votes were:

Create a Westside Municipality: 5,924
Join City of Kelowna: 5,582

The people I work with who live in Westbank will be so p*ssed. This is what they didn't want. Hey hum at least they wont be helping us to pay for the new pool.

I thought from a Westside point of view, the option to "incorporate" was a good thing, where "amalgamation" was the bad deal?

Personally, I'm glad to see that Incorporation won out! In the 1970's, Rutland, Okanagan Mission and Glenmore didn't have a choice and were forcibly amalgamated into Kelowna. I'm glad to see that at least the Westside had the option to vote for what they wanted for their community!

remember when people complained about amalgamation with Kelowna and didn't want to be like it and now they go and call themselves West Kelowna
