What sort of timescale did you all have when buying your houses from offer to moving in?

Kobo,
With our house it was 2 weeks (including Easter holidays!). That was including sorting out a mortgage, searches done and everything, we couldn't believe it! But it was empty.
The place at Big White took a little longer, about a month. It's so much better than the UK 6 month wait, but there are obviously exceptions. I'd guess that the average would be about a month?

It really does depend on individual circumstances. As a general rule once an offer has been accepted the timescale to remove subjects is approx 7-10 days, then 'completion & posession' dates are fixed, normally by mutual agreement by both parties, can be as quick as 1 week or a few months after!!!

Hi. Ours will be around 3.5 weeks from offer to move in, but we did press for an early date, and the vendors are taking the offer and renting. Not everyone may be as accommodating...!

What about finding the house - had you already found a house or have you managed that in a couple of weeks as well?

There are lots of houses on the market all round the area. Finding the right one for you depends on what you are looking for.
We found and bought our house in a week when we were there May 2006, once the subjects are removed you can set the completion date. We set completion but the lady would have moved out straight away if that was what we wanted.

Thanks folks, sounds like the agent we spoke to while on our recce trip was telling the truth, not something that happens over here in England!
