23rd March 2008 12:31
I dont know what I am doing wrong, But when I am trying to search for properties to look at on the MLS website I keep getting "Your search did not return any results, please refine your search criteria." Is anyone else getting this?

You would probably be better off not choosing too many refinements. The sorting really depends on how the realtors describe the properties they list. So, choose "no preference" for everything other than price. You will have to browse through alot that you don't want, but at least you'll get something.

Well I never. I didn't try that. Just thought I needed to refine my search further. It was really starting to wind me up. Hope it's working for you now. I have found that it doesn't like you to choose 'house' and 'detatched' for some reason.

I think the issue is that the admin staff in the real estate offices who load up these details on the MLS system don't make those specifications. I think they just load up that it's a house for sale in a certain price range - so if you specify things like 'detached', the system returns that there aren't any properties. Perhaps they're afraid of limiting the search results.
It's unfortunate, as it means you have to search through absolutely everything.

I agree with this... as someone who sees the back end data... many times areas that would help define a search are left incomplete - which is a royal pain in the ....
Unfortunately, the average age of Realtors in the Okanagan is 58 ... so they do not understand how search criteria can work for their listings.... or against them. Also realize that many of them are stuck in the "make the buyer come to me for information age" Gradually, those of us who understand and value the freedom that technology affords buyers WILL be successful of our takeover and make changes to ensure you can have a better experience with a customer driven user interface. (Oh - how they would tremble if they were reading this... I may be lynched!)

I have spent the odd hour just browsing through the MLS website to see whats around. Thanks to your comments I am able to peruse at leisure. Its just part of my research at the moment.
Does anyone do part exchange for a house in Grantham? That'd be nice!
